Yash’s much-hyped Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups may have disappointed audiences, but the actor’s response to the backlash was strikingly restrained.
According to Hindustan Times, dubbing supervisor Jaidev Mohan said Yash called him after release and urged him not to take the reactions to heart.
“Let’s leave it to the audience; it’s their wish. There is work to be done next,” Yash reportedly told him. Jaidev said he could hear the actor’s pain.
Jaidev said more than three lakh piracy links have been removed since release. He accepted the audience verdict, calling it “mahaprabhu” and praising director Geetu Mohandas as a “firebrand”.
He also said social media showed hostility towards her and claimed Yash had a “defence mechanism” against attempts to diminish his stardom.
Directed and written by Geetu, Toxic credits Yash as co-writer and producer. Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth also star.
Made for a reported ₹500 crore-plus, the film has earned ₹247.25 crore net in India and ₹338.50 crore worldwide, according to Sacnilk.
Released on 26 August in Kannada, English, other South Indian languages and Hindi, its English version reached select theatres on 4 September.
