Emraan Hashmi is returning to the horror genre with ‘Rooh’, a musical horror film that brings him back together with producer Kumar Taurani, who backed his Bollywood debut more than two decades ago.
The project has gained a major production partnership, with Tips Films and Tips Music joining the team.
According to NDTV, Tips Films will present the film, while Tips Music will handle its soundtrack. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release in 2027 across Hindi, Tamil and Telugu markets.
Directed by Mayank Sharma, known for the ‘Breathe’ series, ‘Rooh’ is based on a screenplay written by Sharma and Vishal Kapoor.
Kumar Taurani, Girissh Kumar, Vikram Khakhar and Sunny Khanna are producing the project, with Vikas Sahni serving as co-producer. Vicked Films Productions is backing the film.
The reunion holds a special significance for Taurani and Hashmi. Tips Films also produced ‘Footpath’ (2003), which marked Hashmi’s debut as a lead actor.
Taurani said the association was special and expressed hope that their latest collaboration would recreate the success they had enjoyed over the years.
“Over the years we have had many memorable successes across several films and with ‘Rooh’ we are excited to recreate that magic once again,” Taurani said.
Hashmi, meanwhile, described the collaboration as a meaningful one and stressed the importance of music to the film’s emotional and atmospheric storytelling.
“Music has always been an integral part of how audiences connect with my films. With ‘Rooh’, we want music that captures the soul of the film, which is deeply romantic, haunting and rooted by emotion,” the actor said.
The film aims to combine romance and horror, with music playing a central role rather than serving merely as a backdrop. Its makers are hoping to deliver an immersive theatrical experience when it arrives in cinemas in 2027.
Hashmi has previously headlined several horror films, including ‘Raaz: The Mystery Continues’, ‘Raaz 3’, ‘Raaz: Reboot’ and ‘Ek Thi Daayan’. ‘Rooh’ will mark another return to a genre closely associated with some of his popular performances.
