Aditya Roy Kapur and Tara Sutaria’s first on-screen collaboration has received a title, with filmmaker Milap Zaveri naming the upcoming musical love story ‘Parwana’ in memory of his late mentor, director Sanjay Gupta.
The title carries a personal significance for Zaveri, who recently recalled sharing the name with Gupta shortly before his death on 30 October.
According to NDTV, Zaveri revealed that he had met Gupta around 10 days before his passing and told him about the film’s title. Gupta was delighted by the choice, pointing out that an earlier film with the same name had been produced by his father.
Recalling the moment, Zaveri wrote that the happiness he felt and the pride Gupta expressed were difficult to put into words. He also confirmed that he would dedicate the film to his “Guruji”.
‘Parwana’ will bring Aditya and Tara together on screen for the first time. The project also reunites Tara with Zaveri after their 2019 film ‘Marjaavaan’.
The makers have described the upcoming project as an intense musical love story. Further details about its plot and supporting cast remain under wraps.
Produced by Bhushan Kumar and co-produced by Shiv Chanana, the film is expected to begin production later this year, with a theatrical release planned for 2027.
Zaveri and Gupta shared a long professional association. Zaveri worked as a dialogue writer on Gupta’s ‘Kaante’ and later collaborated with him on films including ‘Musafir’, ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’ and ‘Shootout at Wadala’.
Gupta died on 30 October at the age of 57 following an accidental fall that caused a fatal head injury. His death left colleagues and friends in the film industry mourning his loss.
