Four people were arrested in connection with the murder of Swechchhasebak Dal leader Azizur Rahman Musabbir, the Detective Branch (DB) of police said on Sunday.
A press briefing on the matter will be held at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Media Centre in the afternoon.
Police launched an investigation following the killing. CCTV footage from nearby shops and video evidence obtained from the crime scene reportedly revealed the shooters’ faces.
The first three arrests were made late Friday night during operations in Manikganj and Gazipur districts. The detainees include Jinat, the alleged main shooter; Billal, a suspected planner; and a third accomplice.
Musabbir’s wife, Suraiya Begum, filed a murder case at Tejgaon Police Station immediately after the attack.
Musabbir, 45, former general secretary of the Dhaka North unit of the Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal, was shot on Wednesday evening near Bashundhara City Shopping Complex. He was critically injured and later declared dead at BRB Hospital in Dhaka’s Panthapath area.
