Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal has called for nationwide protest, including in Dhaka, on 10 January demanding the immediate arrest of those involved in killing of its former general secretary Azizur Rahman Musabbir.

The programme was announced on Thursday in front of the BNP’s central office at Nayapaltan, ahead of Musabbir’s funeral prayers.

Meanwhile, a murder case has been filed in connection with the killing. Musabbir’s wife lodged the case with Tejgaon Police Station, naming four to five unidentified individuals as accused, according to Officer-in-Charge Keshainyu Marma.

The shooting occurred around 8:40pm on Wednesday (January 7) in the alley beside Star Kabab near Bashundhara City in Dhaka.

During the incident, Abu Sufian Bepari Masud, general secretary of the Van Workers’ Union under Tejgaon Thana, was also shot and critically injured. He is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby shops to identify the attackers. The motive for the attack remains unclear, police said. A full investigation is under way, they added.
