Puja Chery has a wedding date. At least, the internet says she does.
The actress says it is completely false. Yet the rumour has done something her recent films have struggled to do put her name back at the centre of the entertainment conversation.
From PoraMon 2 and Dahan to Masud Rana and Domm, Puja’s career has moved through films, releases and collaborations. But lately, the biggest headlines around her have been about romance, engagement and marriage.
And that raises a more uncomfortable question: has Puja Chery’s personal life started overshadowing the career that made her a star?
Puja’s recent films have reached audiences, but the steady buzz around her career has faded. Her latest theatrical release, Saikat Nasir’s Masud Rana, arrived during Eid-ul-Azha, generated audience interest and continued its run with a revised version. Before that, Redoan Rony’s Domm, starring Afran Nisho and Puja, drew attention after its Eid-ul-Fitr release, particularly in multiplexes.
Yet neither has restored the level of attention surrounding her early successes.
The shift became more noticeable after Puja appeared opposite Shakib Khan in the government-funded Golui in 2022. Rumours about her personal life then became a recurring part of the conversation. She was later announced as the heroine of Shakib’s SK Films project Maya, but eventually withdrew from it.
She subsequently worked with Jaaz Multimedia on Jinn, Lipstick and Masud Rana. Her filmography continued, but her personal life increasingly became the bigger talking point.
Industry insiders say a long gap in fresh film announcements can leave a vacuum, allowing romance and marriage rumours to dominate the conversation. Some producers and directors also fear that repeated speculation could shift audience attention from an actress’s work to her personal controversies.
That raises an uncomfortable question: when a film career goes quiet, can marriage rumours become an unlikely spotlight of their own?
There is no evidence that Puja has used the rumours as a publicity tactic. In fact, she has repeatedly rejected them. A similar claim surfaced in August, alleging that she had secretly married. She denied that too.
Puja has confirmed her engagement but has not revealed her fiancé’s identity or set a wedding date.
“I can see that various media outlets have been publishing one baseless and misleading report after another about my marriage and personal life over the past few days. These reports are completely baseless,” she said.
“I am still unmarried. When I get married, you will be the first to know. Marriage is a major decision in everyone’s life. I do not want to do it secretly. Instead, I want to begin a new life in a festive atmosphere with everyone’s prayers.”
Meanwhile, Nakphuler Kabbo remains awaiting release. Shot in 2022, the film has gone through several release announcements, with its Eid-ul-Azha 2026 release ultimately postponed. It marks Puja’s first pairing with Ador Azad, although their later films Lipstick and Tagar reached audiences first.
Puja remains active on social media despite her relatively low profile on the big screen. The question now is simple but significant: will her next big headline come from a major film, or another marriage rumour?
