The autopsy of Swechchhasebak Dal leader Azizur Rahman Mosabbir, who was shot to death in Dhaka’s Tejgaon area, has been conducted.
It was performed on Thursday afternoon at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue by Ayesha Parveen, a physician and lecturer in the Department of Forensic Medicine.
After the autopsy, the body was taken to the BNP central office in Nayapaltan, where his first namaz-e-janaza was held.
Mosabbir, member secretary of Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal’s Dhaka Metropolitan North unit, was a resident of Garden View in West Karwan Bazar. He was the father of two daughters and one son. He was killed in a shooting by miscreants near the Bashundhara City shopping complex in the city on Wednesday.
The victim’s wife, Suraiya Begum, filed a case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing some unidentified criminals.
She said that Mosabbir had been running a water business in Tejgaon for the past 20 years. There had never been any trouble regarding it. As he became involved in politics, he left the business. Later, he was fully engaged in politics.
Suraiya also said, “After 5 August, his position was suspended. Two days ago, he told me that my suspension will not last long, it will soon be withdrawn. Once it is withdrawn, I will work as the party directs me.”
Demanding justice for her husband’s murder, Suraiya expressed hope that law enforcement agencies would take action after reviewing the CCTV footage.
Riazul Islam, a presidential candidate for the Tejgaon Thana unit of Swechchhasebak Dal, said that Mosabbir was joint secretary of the central committee of Swechchhasebak Dal. His position had been suspended after 5 August. He was also twice the former secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan North. In 2020, he contested the councillor post in the Ward 26 election but did not win.
Riazul said that Mosabbir never liked political showdowns. Most of the time, he moved around with just one or two companions. When party activists came to meet him, he would dismiss them quickly with few words. Riazul also mentioned that Mosabbir usually spent time at the spot where he was shot.
Tejgaon Police Station’s Sub‑inspector (SI) Md Haidar Ali prepared the inquest report. He mentioned marks of perforations caused by gunshots on Mosabbir’s abdomen and hand.
