Police have arrested three individuals for allegedly attempting to traffic a young woman to a brothel in Faridpur after luring her with promises of marriage and a job.
A case has been filed at Kotwali Police Station on Friday under multiple sections of the Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling Prevention and Suppression Act, 2026.
According to police and case documents, the victim, identified as 19-year-old Mst Joni from Kasahat area in Bogura’s Shariakandi Upazila, had been living with her mother in Dhaka’s Dhamrai area and working at a garment factory.
During her stay in Dhaka, she became acquainted with three individuals- Monir Sheikh, 30, Alam Fakir, 20, and Munni, 20 – who allegedly rented a house in the same area.
Investigators said the accused developed a close relationship with the victim and later lured her with promises of marriage and better employment opportunities.
On 14 May, they allegedly took her to a rented house in the Shibrampur area of Faridpur and kept her there for several days.
On 21 May, the suspects allegedly attempted to take her to the Rathkhola brothel area under Kotwali Police Station with the intention of trafficking her.
Realising their plan, the victim refused to enter the brothel premises. Police said the accused then tried to force her inside.
The victim managed to escape by screaming for help and took shelter in a nearby shop.
Hearing her cries, local residents rushed to the scene, detained the three suspects, and informed the police.
Kotwali Police later rescued the victim and took the accused into custody.
Authorities also said two additional individuals, identified as Tania and Dukhu, are linked to the incident and are currently absconding.
Faridpur Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahmudul Hasan confirmed that a case has been filed and drives are underway to arrest the remaining suspects.
