Coast Guard members have detained 17 fishermen along with an illegal artisanal trolling boat, six trolling nets, and 700 kg of marine fish following an operation in the north-west sea area off Saint Martin’s Island in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.
Members of Coast Guard Station Saint Martin conducted the drive based on secret information at around 11am on Saturday in the north-west sea zone of the island.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon confirmed the incident at around 8:30pm on Saturday.
He said a special drive was launched in the north-west sea area off Saint Martin following a tip-off, during which an illegal artisanal trolling boat was seized.
Searching the vessel, Coast Guard personnel recovered six trolling nets and 700 kg of marine fish valued at Tk2,10,000, alongside detaining 17 fishermen on board.
Legal proceedings against the seized trolling boat, nets, marine fish, and the 17 detained fishermen are currently underway. Operations by the Coast Guard to safeguard fisheries resources remain ongoing.
