In Boalkhali, Chattogram, the army has arrested three Awami League and Jubo League leaders along with weapons and cocktail explosives.
The arrested individuals are Nurul Amin (46), Mohammad Abu Naser Jilani (52), and Mohammad Shahadat Hossain (42).
On Wednesday evening, acting on a tip, a special team from the Boalkhali Army Camp under the control of the Adhoc 48 Air Defence Regiment conducted a raid in the Jamtala area of No 1 Kadhurkhil Union and arrested them. The raid was led by Camp Commander Captain Sheikh Abrar Faiyaz.
After the operation, the army informed that one shotgun, four cocktail explosives, one shotgun shell, four mobile phones, and Tk89,020 in cash were seized from the individuals arrested.
Captain Sheikh Abrar Faiyaz said, preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested Nurul Amin has past allegations of capturing a polling station by brandishing weapons during the Sikdaria School Center election, extortion, and land grabbing.
Information about his involvement has also been found in the armed firing incident at Chowdhuryhat’s Showkhin City Market on 15 January 2015.
He further informed that preliminary interrogation has revealed that the three arrested individuals were planning sabotage centring 13 November. They have been handed over to Boalkhali Police Station along with the seized weapons and explosives.
