Shamit Shome has been rested for tonight’s friendly against Nepal, with coach Javier Cabrera giving the player time to recover after his recent return from Canada.
Coach Javier Cabrera had followed a similar strategy during the Asian Cup qualifier against Hong Kong in October, keeping Shamit out of the first eleven.
The coach has placed his trust in Mitul Marma as goalkeeper, with the central defensive pairing of Tariq Kazi and Topu Barman. Full-backs Saad Uddin and US-based Zayyan Ahmed will patrol the flanks. Zayyan impressed as a substitute against Hong Kong and also in the starting eleven during the away match on 14 October, and Cabrera has again relied on him for tonight’s fixture.
Despite past criticism over occasional costly mistakes, Saad remains a key figure in defence, with Cabrera’s faith in him unwavering. The midfield is bolstered by returning captain Jamal Bhuiya, alongside England-based Hamza Choudhury and the two Sohel Ranas. Injured midfielder Sheikh Morsalin was unavailable, and Cuba Mitchell was not selected.
Upfront, the attack is led by the consistent pair of Faisal Ahmed Fahim and Rakib Hossain. Shamit’s absence may raise questions, but Zayyan and Saad are expected to take responsibility and set the tone on the pitch.
