Mymensingh police have arrested two more people in connection with the killing of Dipu Chandra Das in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh over an allegation of making derogatory remarks about religion.
Police confirmed the information in a message on Sunday. With this, a total of 12 people have now been arrested in connection with the incident.
Earlier, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) had arrested 10 suspects involved in the incident. Mymensingh RAB‑14 Commander Naimul Hasan said that those involved in the murder had gone into hiding.
However, no evidence was found to prove that the deceased, Dipu, had made derogatory remarks about religion, the official also said. He added that work is ongoing to determine the motive behind the killing and to arrest others involved.
Around 9pm on Thursday, Dipu Das was beaten to death at a factory of Pioneer Knitwears Ltd. Later, his body was tied to a tree, assaulted, and set ablaze.
Upon receiving the news, police recovered the half‑burnt body around 2:30am and sent it to the hospital morgue.
The victim’s brother, Apu Chandra Das, filed a case at Bhaluka Police Station on Friday afternoon, naming 150 unidentified people as accused.
His father, Ravi Chandra Das, and sister, Champa Das, claimed that Dipu was falsely accused and killed in a planned manner due to a dispute over increasing production at the factory. Dipu was a quality supervisor at the factory. He was a resident of Mokamia Kanda village in Tarakanda upazila.
