Two officials from Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) have been temporarily suspended following the collapse of a newly constructed road in the Kashimpur-Dhananjaykhali area.
The incident occurred before the road’s official inauguration, drawing significant media attention.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was informed of the issue, and under his directive, the State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, visited the site for an inspection on Monday.
The road’s collapse has been attributed to the use of substandard materials, with the preliminary investigation also noting the impact of natural disasters.
In response, Project Director Harun-ar-Rashid and Engineer Shamsur Rahman have been suspended pending further inquiry, as confirmed by State Minister Shahe Alam.
Following the inspection, Shahe Alam handed over the suspension letters for both officials to the Administrator of Gazipur City Corporation Shawkat Hossain.
The state minister emphasised that strict actions would be taken against those found responsible.
In addition, Shahe Alam announced the dissolution of all previous investigative committees handling corruption allegations within the city corporation.
A new seven-member high-level committee has been formed to carry out an in-depth investigation, with instructions to submit its findings within 15 working days.
