The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested two suspected drug traffickers in the capital’s Shahbag area on Thursday after discovering over a thousand Yaba pills hidden inside their bodies.
The arrestees were identified as Md Hasan, 40, and Ekhlas Mia, 65.
Acting on a secret tip-off, a team from the CTTC’s Special Action Group conducted a raid in the Doel Chattar area around 7pm on Thursday. Upon apprehension and subsequent interrogation, the unit discovered that the suspects were carrying narcotics internally.
The duo was immediately taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where medical professionals recovered 1,320 pieces of Yaba from inside their stomachs.
According to CTTC sources, the suspects admitted during primary interrogation that they had procured the Yaba from the border district of Cox’s Bazar. They reportedly used a “specialized technique” to swallow the pills to bypass security checkpoints while traveling to Dhaka. Once in the capital, they intended to retrieve the drugs through bowel movements to sell them to various local retail dealers.
Police confirmed that legal proceedings against the arrested individuals are currently underway.
