The Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BAJUS) has decided to increase gold prices again, setting a record for the local market. The price of 22-carat gold has been raised by Tk4,374 per bhori, bringing the new rate to Tk2,28,556, including VAT.
According to a press release issued by BAJUS on Friday morning, the new pricing came into effect at 10am the same day.
The association stated that the decision to revise the prices was made in consideration of the overall market situation and the rising cost of pure gold (tejabi gold) in the local market.
Under the revised price list, a bhori (11.664 grams) of 21-carat gold will now cost Tk2,18,292, while 18-carat gold is priced at Tk1,87,440 per bhori. The price for gold sold via the traditional (Sanatan) method has been fixed at Tk1,53,148 per bhori. All specified rates are inclusive of VAT.
This latest hike follows a previous adjustment made on the morning of 2 July, when the price of gold was increased by Tk2,216 per bhori.
On that day, the price of 22-carat gold was set at Tk2,24,182, while 21-carat was Tk2,14,093, 18-carat was Tk1,83,883, and traditional gold was Tk1,50,232.
With this latest announcement, gold prices in the domestic market have been adjusted 86 times so far this year. This includes 43 instances of price hikes, 42 price cuts, and one instance of VAT adjustment.
