13 senior police officials sent on forced retirement

The government has sent 13 senior officials of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Police) cadre into mandatory retirement in the “public interest.” The Ministry of Home Affairs, Public Security Division (Police-1 Branch), issued a notification to this effect on Wednesday.

The order, signed by Senior Secretary Md Morshed Chowdhury by order of the President, stated that the officials were being retired from service under Section 45 of the Public Service Act, 2018.

The senior officials sent into retirement include AFM Masum Rabbani, DIG of the Police Staff College in Dhaka; Md Sakhawat Hossain, Additional DIG of the Tourist Police; and Md Ashrafuluzzaman, BPM, Commandant (DIG) of PTC, Rangpur, who is currently noted as a fugitive.

Also on the list are AZM Nafiul Islam, BPM-Seba, DIG of the Anti-Terrorism Unit in Dhaka (attached); Mohammad Abul Foyez, DIG of the River Police in Dhaka (attached); and Md Monirul Islam, BPM, PPM, DIG of the Anti-Terrorism Unit in Dhaka (attached).

Further officials named in the notification are Mahfuzur Rahman, BPM (Bar), DIG at Police Headquarters, Dhaka (TR), who was under orders of transfer to BP, Sarada, Rajshahi; Md Muniruzzaman, BPM-Seba, DIG at APBN Headquarters, Dhaka (attached); and Md Iqbal Hossain, Additional DIG and Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at the Ministry of Home Affairs, currently attached to the Rangpur Range Office.

The list is completed by Shamima Begum, BPM-Seba, PPM, DIG at Police Headquarters, Dhaka (TR); Md Abu Kalam Siddique, DIG of the Industrial Police, Dhaka; Md Aminul Islam, BPM (Bar), DIG of Police Telecom, Dhaka; and Ms. Salma Begum, PPM-Seba, DIG of APBN (Hilly Districts).

The notification specified that the officials will be entitled to retirement benefits as per the existing rules.

The order comes into force immediately, and copies of the notification have been forwarded to the relevant authorities, including the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, the Inspector General of Police, and the Office of the Chief Accounts and Finance Officer for necessary action.
