Around 1,100 runners from 12 countries, including Bangladesh, are set to participate in one of the country’s most popular 10-kilometre running competitions, the “Sam Bond-CR 10K 2026”, in Chattogram this Friday. The event, themed “Run the City”, will be held at the historic Shirishtala in the CRB area.
The details were disclosed by Mujibur Rahman Moni, co-founder of the organising body Chattala Runners, during a “Meet the Press” event held at a city restaurant on Wednesday.
Fifth edition to focus on health and environment, marks the fifth time Chattala Runners is organising the competition. The event is centred around the CRB area, famously known as the “lungs of Chattogram.” Moni noted that the race will feature runners of various age groups from both home and abroad, with cash prizes and honours awaiting the winners.
Coinciding with World Environment Day, the organisers aim to promote nature conservation alongside the sport. “We have been working to build a running culture in Chattogram for a long time,” Moni said. “CR 10K has become one of the most recognised running competitions in the country, and the participation of 1,100 runners is a significant achievement for us.”
The race is scheduled to commence at 5:45am and is expected to conclude by 7:20am, followed by the prize-giving ceremony at 8:05am.
Fostering a culture of fitness Pradip Kumar Deb, an advisor to Chattala Runners, emphasised that the initiative goes beyond mere competition. “Our goal is to foster a culture of healthy living and regular physical exercise,” he said, adding that the event aims to increase health awareness among the youth and provide an international-standard racing environment.
The event is title-sponsored by Sam Bond (Samuda Spec-Chem Limited), with Evercare Hospital Chattogram serving as the healthcare and hydration partner. The Bangladesh Railway and the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) are providing implementation support, while Savoy Ice Cream is the ice cream partner.
The award ceremony is expected to be attended by several dignitaries, including, Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation Shahadat Hossain, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Chattogram Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miyan, Superintendent of Police, Chattogram Md Masud Alam, General Secretary of the District Sports Association Mohammad Salah Uddin, Chief Business Officer of Sam Bond Bikash Kanti Das, Brand Manager Imtiaz Ibn Imam, Corporate Head of Evercare Hospital Chattogram Ram Prasad Sushil, and Everest-conquering mountaineer Babar Ali.
The press conference was attended by Bikash Kanti Das, Ranjan Kumar Das of Evercare Hospital, and Chattala Runners advisors Rajiv Ghosh, Enamul Haque, and Kazi Ariful Islam.
