The press conference of the 11-party alliance, led by Jamaat-e-Islami, to announce its final seat-sharing decision has been postponed.
The press conference was scheduled to be held at 4:30pm on Wednesday.
The announcement was made in a message signed by Hamidur Rahman Azad, Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat and coordinator of the 11-party alliance.
Earlier in the day, a press release sent at 11:30am on behalf of the 11-party alliance by Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad said the press conference would be held at the Diploma Engineers Institution auditorium, where the alliance’s candidacy might be announced.
Sources said the postponement followed renewed uncertainty over seat-sharing, as Islami Andolan Bangladesh, led by Charmonai Pir Syed Mohammad Rezaul Karim, remained dissatisfied after failing to secure its desired number of seats.
This has raised fresh doubts over whether the Jamaat alliance will ultimately comprise 10 or 11 parties, despite several rounds of meetings held among the alliance partners on Tuesday night to resolve the impasse.
Multiple sources from the two parties said Jamaat has agreed to allocate 45 seats to Islami Andolan Bangladesh, while Islami Andolan’s latest demand stands at 60 seats.
