Students of seven government colleges will continue their peaceful sit-in programme on Thursday at three key intersections in the capital, demanding the issuance of a final ordinance to establish the proposed Dhaka Central University.
The demonstrations will be held simultaneously from 11am at Tantibazar in Old Dhaka, Science Laboratory intersection, and Technical intersection in Gabtoli.
Bangla College student Masum Billah formally announced the decision while speaking to reporters at Gabtoli Technical Morh on Wednesday afternoon.
He said the decision to continue the programme was taken jointly by students of various Dhaka-based colleges and universities.
The student representative said Wednesday’s programme had been concluded and that the sit-in would resume Thursday from 11am and continue until evening.
He said the students would not move “even an inch” from their core demand, stressing that the movement was not a one-day programme but a long-term struggle for their future and rights.
Protesting students said their objective was clear and that education remained their greatest aspiration. They vowed to continue the peaceful movement in unity until their demand is met.
Meanwhile, with no final announcement yet from the authorities, both concern and expectations are growing among the students.
They urged the relevant authorities to take effective steps to meet their demand without further delay.
