A young man was shot dead by armed assailants while visiting his sister’s house in Chattogram’s Rauzabad area under Bayezid Bostami Police Station on Thursday night.
According to eyewitnesses and local sources, the incident occurred between 9pm and 9:30 pm at the Shahid Minar lane in Rauzabad. Raju had travelled from Rauzan to visit his sister’s home.
As he reached the entrance of the lane, a group of armed terrorists launched an unprovoked attack, firing several rounds at him. Raju collapsed on the spot and died immediately. Locals also reported that a child was shot during the incident.
An eyewitness at the scene stated that the sudden sound of gunfire led many to initially believe that firecrackers were being set off or that an electricity transformer had exploded.
However, they soon discovered the bloodied bodies of a young man and a child lying on the ground. Upon receiving the news, police arrived promptly at the scene, recovered Raju’s body, and sent it to Chattogram Medical College (CMCH) Hospital for an autopsy.
The victim’s sister stated that her brother was not involved in any criminal activities and had no legal cases against him, emphasizing that he had only come to Rauzabad to visit her.
Senior police officials have visited the crime scene, where bloodstains were still visible on the road. Law enforcement members are currently collecting information from witnesses and are working to identify those involved in the killing.
Md Abdul Karim, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bayezid Bostami Police Station, confirmed the incident, stating that the motive behind the murder has not yet been determined and that the investigation is ongoing.
