A 22-year-old man was killed and his friend injured after a CNG-run auto-rickshaw hit their motorcycle in the capital’s Hatirjheel area on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Sheikh Zayed, son of Jamil Sheikh, a resident of Mukti Masjid Lane near Rampura Television Centre.
The accident occurred around 1:30pm behind the Police Plaza in Hatirjheel. According to the injured motorcycle owner and driver, Al-Amin Bhuban (21), the duo was heading to a filling station to refuel when a speeding auto-rickshaw hit them from behind.
Robin, a pedestrian who assisted in the rescue, said they found the two victims lying injured on the road next to the motorcycle. They were initially rushed to a local hospital and subsequently moved to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Physicians at DMCH declared Zayed dead at approximately 2:15pm,.
The deceased’s brother, Samir Sheikh Parosh, stated that he rushed to the hospital after hearing news of the accident. Inspector Md. Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH Police Camp, confirmed the death based on the medical report.
