For the past two years, the relationship between singer Xefer Rahman and presenter Rafsan Sabab has been a constant topic of discussion in the entertainment industry. Although fans repeatedly speculated about a romance after seeing the pair working, travelling and spending time together, both consistently denied being in a relationship. They have now put an end to the speculation through their wedding.
The couple officially tied the knot last Saturday, January 10. On Wednesday, January 14, they hosted additional wedding ceremonies at a resort in Aminbazar, near the capital, attended by family members and close friends. The celebrations included a wedding ceremony in the morning, followed by a reception in the evening, marking a new chapter in their relationship.
From the outset, Xefer and Rafsan described their bond as a friendship. While social media posts showing them together often fuelled rumours, Xefer repeatedly stated that personal relationships should not be judged through public appearances or online commentary. He told the media that he had known Rafsan since the early days of his career and that working or spending time together was natural. He also described interpreting their friendship as a romantic relationship as ‘ridiculous’.
Rafsan Sabab echoed the same sentiment, calling the speculation on social media ‘baseless ideas’. He maintained that friendship or professional collaboration does not automatically imply a romantic relationship. Both were firm about keeping their personal lives private.
Their travels together, both at home and abroad, further intensified the discussion. In the middle of last year, leaked photos and videos of the pair holidaying in Thailand reignited rumours. At the time, Xefer declined to comment, saying he preferred to keep such matters personal.
Following Rafsan Sabab’s announcement of his divorce, public interest in his relationship with Xefer increased again. Rafsan ended his three-year marriage to doctor Shania Shamsun Esha in late 2023, stating that the decision was taken after discussions with both families. However, his former wife later said she did not want the separation.
Subsequently, sections of social media blamed Xefer for the divorce. In response, Rafsan said in a video message that the separation was not a sudden decision, but one he had considered for around a year and a half.
Xefer also clarified that Rafsan’s divorce was a personal matter and that she had no involvement in it.
