World University of Bangladesh (WUB) has concluded its Business Idea Competition 2026 – Innovation for Sustainable Growth with an award ceremony and closing session, recognising student teams for innovative and sustainable business concepts.
The event was held on 15 July 2026 at the Founding Treasurer Morsheda Choudhury Auditorium of WUB, bringing together more than 126 participants and guests, including academics, industry leaders, judges, mentors, faculty members, students and organisers.
The ceremony opened with a welcome address by Professor Zaki Imam, Registrar of World University of Bangladesh. Md Nazrul Islam Sarker, Additional Managing Director of Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC, attended as the Guest of Honor and highlighted the role of innovation-driven entrepreneurship in strengthening Bangladesh’s economy.
Sarker encouraged students to transform their ideas into impactful ventures, while Special Guests Professor Dr Md Mamun Habib, Head of the Department of General Management at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), and Dr Rafiuddin Ahmed, Professor at the Department of Marketing, University of Dhaka, stressed the importance of innovation, sustainability and stronger industry-academia collaboration.
Professor Dr AQM Shafiul Azam, Dean of Academic Affairs and Research, praised participants and organisers for successfully arranging the university’s flagship entrepreneurship competition, according to a press release. Representing the Advisory Committee, Professor Dr M Nurul Islam, Pro Vice-Chancellor of WUB, said the initiative encouraged entrepreneurial thinking and sustainable innovation among students.
The Chief Guest, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of World University of Bangladesh, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to promoting innovation, entrepreneurship and industry engagement. He said such initiatives would help prepare students to become future entrepreneurs and responsible leaders.
The competition recognised several winning teams. Team ‘AmarDoctor’ from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering emerged as the champion, while Team ‘Green Genesis’ from the Department of Textile Engineering became the first runner-up and Team ‘Pharmagoal’ from the Department of Pharmacy secured the second runner-up position.
Team ‘EcoPulp BD’ from the Department of Textile Engineering received the Best Innovative Idea Award, while Team ‘CareCatalyst’ from the Department of Business Administration won the Best Social Impact Idea Award.
During the closing session, crests and certificates were presented to external and internal judges, special guests and members of the organising committee in recognition of their contributions.
Professor Dr Selim Ahmed, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies and Convener of the competition, thanked the Advisory Committee, organising committee, judges, mentors, faculty members, volunteers, sponsors and participants for their contributions. He urged students to continue developing innovative ideas into sustainable ventures with positive social and economic impact.
The programme concluded with a group photograph of guests, judges, organisers, volunteers and winning teams, marking the completion of the Business Idea Competition 2026 and highlighting WUB’s focus on innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainable development.
