Police in Cox’s Bazar’s Eidgaon rescued a young woman three days after she was abducted and arrested three men over allegations of kidnapping, rape and looting gold ornaments.
The woman was recovered on Friday from a rented house near Marine Drive in Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila, while the suspects were arrested during raids at several locations in Jalalabad Union of Eidgaon Upazila.
According to police, the woman was abducted on March 3.
The arrested are Atik Ullah, 21, of Chaufaldandi Union in Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila, Chaiyodul Karim, 22, of Bottoli Para in Jalalabad Union of Eidgaon Upazila, and Mohammad Motaher Hossain, 21, of Khonkar Khil in the same union.
Eidgaon Police Station Sub-Inspector Ashraf Hossain, who led the operation, said the rescue and arrests were made following a general diary filed by the victim’s mother after the incident.
He said looted gold ornaments were also recovered based on confessional statements from the suspects after their arrest.
A case has been filed against the accused under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother.
According to the case statement, the woman was abducted on the morning of March 3 from in front of her house in East Mohonbhila area of Jalalabad Union.
The accused later kept her confined in an unidentified rented house near Marine Drive in Cox’s Bazar Sadar and raped her.
They also snatched gold ornaments from the victim and threatened to kill her in an attempt to extort more money, the complaint said.
Eidgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge ATM Sifatul Majdar said the arrested suspects will be produced before a court on Saturday.
