A woman died in a road accident on the Narail–Dhaka highway in Lohagara on Wednesday morning while travelling in an ambulance with her husband’s body.
Driver of the ambulance was also killed in the accident around 8:30am, said Ajay Kumar Kundu, officer‑in‑charge of Narail Sadar Police Station.
The deceased were identified as Jahanara Begum, 55, wife of Ismail Molla, and Akbar Hossain, 28, driver of the ambulance.
Police and local sources said the ambulance was heading to Narail from Dhaka with the body of a man. Family members, including his wife, were inside. At Badshar Garage in Lohagara, the vehicle collided head‑on with a local bus.
The impact left the ambulance mangled. Jahanara Begum died instantly. Several other passengers sustained serious injuries and were admitted to hospital.
Police and fire service personnel carried out rescue operations. OC Ajay said both vehicles have been seized and legal action is being initiated.
