Veteran cinematographer Abdul Latif Bachchu has died at the age of 83, leaving behind a remarkable cinematic legacy.
Family members rushed Bachchu to a private hospital in Dhanmondi on Sunday morning after his condition suddenly deteriorated. Doctors declared him dead at 12:30 pm, confirming complications related to lung infection, diabetes and kidney illness. Renowned cinematographer Anwar Hossain Bulu, his brother in law, confirmed the news to local media outlets later.
Born in Sirajganj in 1942, Bachchu began his career before independence as an assistant cinematographer in cinema. He later emerged as a leading cinematographer, working on 65 films and shaping visual storytelling in Bangladeshi cinema.
Bachchu also directed nine films and earned several honours, including BACHSAS and the Fazlul Haque Smriti Award.
He is survived by his three sons who live in the US. Bachchu’s funeral arrangements will be decided by his family once his sons return.
