A US Army Apache attack helicopter has crashed near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, but both crew members on board were safely rescued, according to media reports.
The New York Times, citing two individuals briefed on the incident, reported the crash on Tuesday.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the accident, the report added. It remains unclear whether the aircraft was shot down by Iranian fire, suffered a mechanical failure, or encountered some other problem.
Separately, US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will declare “total victory” over Iran within the next two weeks, according to a report by Anadolu Agency.
The statement comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, with the region already on edge following recent military exchanges between Israel and Iran.
The Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant portion of the world’s oil passes, has been a flashpoint in past US-Iran confrontations. The latest incident involving a US military aircraft in the vicinity is likely to further escalate already fragile relations between the two countries.
Neither the Pentagon nor Iranian authorities have issued an official statement regarding the helicopter crash at the time of reporting.
