The University Teachers’ Network (UTN) has expressed solidarity following social media criticism directed at Beauty Rani Paul, the headteacher of Pitaitikor Government Primary School in Fenchuganj Upazila, Sylhet, over a reel video.
The organisation joined primary teachers and professionals from across the country who have been publishing videos using the song “Sraboner Meghgulo” as a form of protest.
The controversy began after a reel video of Beauty Rani Paul went viral, featuring her walking in a blue saree to the tune of the song “Sraboner Meghgulo Joro Holo Akash-e.”
Following the video’s circulation on social media, she faced various forms of commentary and criticism.
In response, teachers and individuals from diverse professions began creating their own reels and videos using the same song to demonstrate their support and solidarity for Beauty Rani.
Several teachers associated with the UTN have also participated by publishing their own videos on social media.
Gitiara Nasreen, a professor at Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Dhaka University, described the movement as an “innovative expression of solidarity.”
In a Facebook post, she said the wave of videos produced by primary teachers and others across the country serves as a protest against the unwarranted criticism faced by the headteacher.
Speaking to TIMES of Bangladesh, Professor Nasreen confirmed her stance, saying, “We are expressing our active solidarity with the way primary teachers and many others from different parts of the country are campaigning on Facebook in protest of the unwarranted criticism of a reel video by headteacher Beauty Rani Paul.”
This collective initiative is being viewed as a symbolic protest in favour of personal choice and creative freedom on social media.
Through these videos featuring the song “Sraboner Meghgulo,” teachers and participants are asserting their positions through music, poetry, and literature.
