An unidentified man was crushed under the wheels of a train in Malibagh area of the capital on Sunday afternoon.
The accident occurred at around 2:15pm near the Malibagh railway gate.
Police and witnesses said the injured man, aged around 40 years old, was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead at approximately 2:45pm.
Witness Md Ariful Islam said the man was crossing the railway tracks when he was hit by a train that had departed from Kamalapur railway station, leaving him seriously injured.
He also said the victim had been seen roaming around the Malibagh railway gate area earlier and would often seek food from passers-by.
Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the DMCH police camp, confirmed the incident, saying the body has been kept in the hospital morgue for post-mortem.
