An unidentified elderly man was killed after being run over by a train in the Naldanga station area of Sadullapur upazila in Gaibandha.
The incident occurred on Friday morning when the Dinajpur-bound Ramsagar Express struck the man as he was lying on the railway tracks, according to local sources.
The train had departed from Bonarpara in Saghata upazila before the accident took place near Naldanga station.
“I was going to Rangpur and suddenly heard people screaming at Naldanga station,” said Ramsagar Express passenger Ashrafi Akter.
“I got off the train and saw the dismembered body of a man lying under it,” she added.
Bonarpara Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kamal Uddin said police recovered the body from the scene.
Efforts are under way to identify the deceased and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, he said.
