Parliament Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni has called upon the relevant authorities to release AM Hasan Nasim – a content creator reportedly arrested for drawing cartoons of him.

Moni made the request on Sunday during a parliamentary session, shortly before the break for Asr prayers.

Addressing the Speaker, Moni stated that while he was not certain if the arrest was directly linked to the cartoons, there has been significant social media speculation regarding the matter. “I want him to be released,” the chief whip said, referring to the content creator.

Despite his request for Nasim’s release, Moni expressed concern over the use of certain social media accounts to spread rumours, propaganda, and baseless information against the current government, ministers, and their family members.

He described such actions as regrettable and unacceptable. AM Hasan Nasim was taken into custody by a team from the Detective Branch (DB) of police from his residence in the capital’s Agargaon area on the evening of 17 April.

According to the DB police, content creator Nasim is accused of being involved in spreading rumours and anti-government propaganda through social media platforms.
