The Department of General Education (GED) at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), in collaboration with Ogrojatra Nari Forum, organised a training programme on gender equality, social justice and inclusive thinking, bringing together students from multiple academic disciplines to discuss issues of fairness, diversity and social inclusion.

The programme, titled “Gender Equality, Social Justice and Transformative Mindsets”, was held on June 22 at the university’s PD Building and was attended by around 50 students from different departments, the organisers said in a press release.

The training session was conducted by Zakia Sisir, Convenor of Ogrojatra Nari Forum; Mehnaj Pervin, Member Secretary of Ogrojatra Nari Forum; and Aminul Islam, Chief Executive of Earth Development Foundation.

The programme focused on developing participants’ understanding of gender equality, social justice, unconscious bias, gender stereotypes and the socialisation processes that influence attitudes and behaviour within society.

Students actively participated in a series of interactive activities, including presentations, brainstorming sessions, situation analyses and reflection exercises designed to explore barriers to equality and identify practical approaches to promoting inclusive practices.

According to the organisers, the discussions encouraged participants to examine how social norms and stereotypes shape everyday experiences in educational institutions, workplaces and communities.

The resource persons emphasised the importance of challenging gender stereotypes, recognising unconscious biases and cultivating transformative mindsets that support fairness, diversity and inclusion.

The event concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, providing participants with an opportunity to exchange views, share experiences and reflect on the key lessons from the training.

Professor Shahnaj Husne Jahan, PhD, Head of the Department of General Education at ULAB, addressed the participants and encouraged them to act as ambassadors of the programme by applying and sharing the knowledge gained through the training.

Certificates were distributed among participants at the conclusion of the session.

The organisers said in a press release that the initiative formed part of broader efforts to promote awareness of gender equality and social justice while encouraging students to contribute to more inclusive and equitable social and professional environments.
