United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB) reported strong growth in green and sustainable finance in the first quarter of 2026, reflecting continued alignment with climate-resilient banking and ESG-based lending requirements, the lender said in a press release.
According to the bank’s sustainability finance dashboard, green finance disbursement stood at Tk71.8 crore in Q1 2026, equal to 25.02 per cent of total term loan disbursement, well above the 5 per cent target threshold of Tk14.4 crore.
Green finance outstanding was Tk2,637.1 crore, equivalent to 5.04 per cent of net loans and advances, slightly above the 5 per cent regulatory benchmark of Tk2,617.1 crore.
Sustainable finance disbursement totalled Tk2,350.4 crore, accounting for 32.38 per cent of total disbursement during the quarter, against a 20 per cent benchmark.
Sustainable finance outstanding stood at Tk19,359 crore.
The data shows that green finance disbursement significantly exceeded the minimum requirement, while outstanding balances remained broadly aligned with regulatory thresholds, indicating sustained portfolio compliance with central bank sustainability guidelines.
Beyond financing, the bank expanded its green operational footprint, including 36 solar-powered branches, four solar-powered ATMs and three solar-powered agent banking outlets.
It also financed 11 green sector projects and introduced 21 green products, reflecting expansion beyond lending into operational and product-level sustainability initiatives.
