Uber has rolled out autonomous rides in Dallas, United States, pairing select UberX, Comfort, and Comfort Electric trips with Avride’s driverless Hyundai Ioniq 5s at no extra cost.
Riders can choose between a traditional car or a self-driving vehicle, marking a major step in bringing commercial robotaxis to one of America’s fastest-growing metros.
The service operates within a roughly nine-square-mile geofenced area.
When an autonomous vehicle is available, the app automatically matches riders for free. Users can increase their chances of getting a robotaxi by enabling the “Autonomous Vehicles” option in the app’s settings.
From unlocking the car to starting the ride, the app guides the experience, and in-app support is available if assistance is needed.
