Two police members have been withdrawn from security duties at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) after telling former minister and JSD President Hasanul Haq Inu not to “take tension” while escorting him to court.
A letter signed by International Crimes Tribunal Deputy Registrar Mahmudul Hasan on Wednesday informed Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner of the decision and requested departmental action against the two officers.
The letter said Constable Md Jamal Hossain and Constable Md Solaiman Hossain, who were serving at the tribunal on deputation from Dhaka Metropolitan Police, have been accused of breaching discipline.
It said the matter should be investigated and necessary departmental measures taken.
The two constables allegedly made inappropriate remarks while escorting Inu, an accused in crimes against humanity cases, between the courtroom and the lockup.
The behaviour was captured in video footage, which later circulated on social media, raising concerns over possible disruption to tribunal security and judicial proceedings.
In the video, the two officers were heard telling the Jasad president, “Don’t worry, sir, we are here.”
Following the incident, they were immediately withdrawn from tribunal security duties and the process for departmental action was initiated.
Inu is on trial in a crimes against humanity case filed over eight allegations, including the killing of six people in Kushtia during the July mass uprising.
The tribunal has set 4 May for presenting arguments in the case.
