Two Hollywood films have hit Star Cineplex screens in Bangladesh from 21 August, offering audiences a choice between supernatural horror and a dinosaur-filled family adventure.
The sixth instalment of the Insidious franchise, ‘Insidious: Out of the Further’, has arrived alongside the third feature film in the PAW Patrol franchise, ‘PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie’. Both films have opened internationally this month.
Insidious: Out of the Further
Fans of the Insidious franchise have been waiting for a new chapter since Insidious: The Red Door in 2023. Directed by Jacob Chase, the latest instalment takes the supernatural story into darker territory.
Amelia Eve stars as Gemma, a young mother who lives with her daughter in her childhood home. Gemma discovers that she can enter The Further, the mysterious realm inhabited by lost souls and supernatural entities.
Her ability, however, comes with a dangerous twist. She can bring beings from The Further into the real world. Once evil entities discover her power, the boundary between the two worlds begins to collapse.
Brandon Perea, Maisie Richardson-Sellers and Lin Shaye also star, with Shaye returning as Elise Rainier.
The film follows a new family as they are drawn towards The Further and discover that its supernatural forces can cross into their world. In earlier films, characters entered The Further to confront trapped souls and demons. Gemma’s ability makes the threat more dangerous because she can bring those entities back with her.
Gemma remains at the centre of the story. Her connection to The Further is both her greatest strength and the biggest danger to her family. The film also explores more of the mysterious realm and its history and rules.
PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie
For younger audiences, ‘PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie’ brings together the familiar rescue pups, dinosaurs and a volcanic island adventure.
Directed by Cal Brunker, the film follows 2023’s PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie. Its voice cast includes Carter Young, Mckenna Grace, Terry Crews, Jennifer Hudson, Fortune Feimster, Jameela Jamil, Paris Hilton, Snoop Dogg and Henry Bolan. The cast also includes Hayden Chamberlen as Rex, along with Rain Janjua, Lucien Duncan-Reid, Nylan Parthipan and William Desrosiers.
The story begins when the PAW Patrol team encounters a mysterious storm and crash-lands on an unexplored tropical island. The island, however, is home to living dinosaurs.
There, the team meets Rex, a pup who has spent years stranded on the island and developed extensive knowledge of dinosaurs. His expertise makes him an important ally as the pups navigate the unfamiliar environment.
The danger grows when the team’s old enemy, Mayor Humdinger, begins mining the island’s natural resources. His actions awaken a dormant volcano, leaving the PAW Patrol facing several rescue missions at once. They must protect the dinosaurs, rescue those in danger, deal with the volcanic threat and stop Humdinger’s plans.
Rex is more than a new character in the adventure. His story highlights how intelligence, courage and determination can help overcome difficulties and physical limitations. After years of isolation, he finds friendship and a new family with the PAW Patrol.
The film combines three major attractions — PAW Patrol, dinosaurs and a volcano. The dinosaur-filled island adds a Jurassic-style adventure to the franchise’s familiar rescue formula, creating a fast-paced experience for younger viewers.
A new song by the popular band Backstreet Boys also features in the film.
By the end, the PAW Patrol and Rex work together to save the island’s creatures and restore its natural environment. Rex is no longer alone. He finds a place within the PAW Patrol and uses his knowledge and experience to help others.
