The Indian High Commission in Dhaka has warned against the spread of misleading information, alleging that the cover of the book gifted to Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury was altered to distort the news.

In a post on its verified Facebook page on Thursday, the mission said the original cover of the book carried the inscription- “Education is the best friend. An educated person is respected everywhere.”

The High Commission alleged that the cover was changed while presenting the incident in a news report, with the apparent intention of portraying the event differently.

The warning came after Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi met Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in Dhaka on Thursday morning.

During the courtesy meeting, the two sides discussed issues of mutual interest, including economic cooperation between Bangladesh and India and bilateral development projects.

Trivedi also presented the minister with a copy of “Arthashastra” during the meeting.

The High Commission urged the public and media outlets to refrain from circulating misleading information and to ensure that the original context and materials are preserved when reporting on such events.
