Two fuel dealers in Meherpur were fined a total of Tk10,000 on Thursday night for selling diesel at prices exceeding the rates fixed by the government.

A mobile court, led by Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Khairul Islam, conducted the operations.
During a raid at Amjhupi Traders in under Meherpur Sadar Upazila, the court discovered that diesel was being sold at Tk5 more per litre than the regulated price. The dealer was subsequently fined Tk5,000 for the offence.

A similar irregularity was found during a simultaneous raid at Aminul Traders, located in the Hotel Bazar area of Meherpur town. This dealer was also fined Tk5,000.

Following the drive, UNO Khairul Islam said selling fuel beyond the government-determined prices would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

He emphasised that such operations would continue regularly to safeguard the interests of consumers and warned that strict legal action would be taken against those found overcharging.

The UNO further urged consumers to remain vigilant, advising them to refrain from purchasing products at inflated prices and to immediately report any instances of price gouging to the administration.
