Two people have died of dengue fever in the past 24 hours, while 220 new patients were admitted to hospitals across the country, according to a health directorate notification on Sunday.
Both deceased were women. Among the newly admitted patients, 88 are women.
With the latest cases, the total number of dengue hospitalisations this year has risen to 4,900. So far this year, nine people have died from the mosquito-borne disease.
According to health directorate data, the highest number of deaths this year occurred in June with four, followed by two each in February and January, and one in May.
Health authorities have urged citizens to take precautions against mosquito breeding and seek immediate medical attention if they develop symptoms such as high fever, body aches, or rashes. The government has stepped up mosquito control measures in affected areas to contain the outbreak.
