Two children have died with measles symptoms at Faridpur Medical College Hospital in the past 24 hours, while 17 more have been admitted with similar symptoms.
The information was confirmed on Thursday afternoon by the Civil Surgeon’s office.
The deceased were seven-month-old Sabiha, daughter of Selim from Sannasichar in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur, and six-month-old Ayatullah, son of Jasim from Sarisha village in Pangsha upazila of Rajbari.
Sabiha died on Wednesday night and Ayatullah on Thursday morning while undergoing treatment at the hospital, according to the Civil Surgeon’s office.
Health officials said 17 new patients were admitted to hospitals across the district in the past 24 hours with measles symptoms.
A total of 185 children have so far received treatment in hospitals in the district with measles-like symptoms, of whom 103 have returned home after recovery.
Three children have died with measles symptoms in the district to date.
Faridpur Civil Surgeon Mahmudul Hasan urged guardians to ensure timely vaccination of children to prevent the spread of measles.
