Two Ansar members killed as bus overturns in Ctg

Two members of the Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) were killed and five others injured after their bus overturned in Chattogram while returning from election duty.

The accident occurred at approximately 1am on Thursday at the Chaurasta Mor area on the Karnaphuli Tunnel road. The personnel were returning to the city after polls duty.

The deceased have been identified as Abdul Jabbar from Ullapara Upazila, Sirajganj, and Sultan Mia from Sherpur. Abdul Jabbar died at the scene, while Sultan Mia passed away at 3pm on Friday in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

Both victims were serving as Ansar guards at the Petrobangla Yard in Patenga, under the South Zone of Chattogram City Ansar.

According to Ansar sources, the bus was carrying 23 members who had been deployed to various centres in the Chattogram-15 (Satkania-Lohagara) constituency. The vehicle reportedly lost control, climbed onto the roadside railing, and overturned.

Among the injured, APC Abu Taher and Ansar members Masum Billah and Mohammad Rashid are receiving treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH). Ratan Chandra Barman is hospitalised at CMCH, while another member has been sent to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Pangu Hospital) in Dhaka.

Mohammad Mostak Ahmad, Director and District Commander of Chattogram District Ansar and VDP, confirmed that out of the 23 personnel on board, two died and five remain under treatment. Fifteen others returned home after receiving primary treatment, while one member was uninjured
