As he celebrates 25 years in Bollywood, Tusshar Kapoor has opened up about the often-overlooked pressures of being a star kid, revealing that he was once told he had to maintain a public persona even when he wasn’t acting, reports India Times.
Looking back on his journey, the actor said the expectations that came with being veteran actor Jeetendra’s son extended far beyond film sets.
“I was told you’ve got to be acting when you’re not acting also,” Tusshar recalled, explaining that he faced constant advice to remain in the spotlight by attending parties, making public appearances and staying in the news.
According to the actor, there was an unwritten expectation that celebrities should project a certain image at all times, regardless of whether they were promoting a film.
“I was told to be a certain way, to be in the news, go to parties,” he said, adding that such advice never aligned with his personality.
Instead of chasing visibility, Tusshar chose to focus on his work, admitting that he has always been more comfortable letting his performances speak for themselves than cultivating a glamorous public image.
The actor, who made his debut opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan in Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai (2001), has since carved out a successful niche in comedy franchises such as Golmaal and Welcome.
Reflecting on his career, he said those films helped him become a household name and remain an important part of his journey.
Tusshar is next set to appear in Welcome to the Jungle and Golmaal 5, while also exploring different genres with upcoming projects, as he continues to balance commercial entertainers with more diverse roles.
