US President Donald Trump is considering new military strikes against Iran after peace talks in Pakistan broke down, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.

The negotiations, led by Vice President JD Vance and his delegation in Islamabad, ended without an agreement as the two sides failed to bridge differences over Tehran’s nuclear programme.

Citing officials and people familiar with the matter, the report said Trump and his advisers are weighing the option of resuming limited strikes inside Iran alongside a US-led blockade of the Strait of Hormuz to break the stalemate in negotiations.

Speaking from his Florida golf resort, Trump told Fox News that Iranian power plants and water facilities could be targeted if tensions escalate further.

“I would hate to do it,” he said, while making clear that all options remain on the table.

Washington is also moving ahead with plans to enforce a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway through which roughly 20% of global oil supply passes daily.
The measure aims to cut off Iran’s oil revenues, which account for nearly half of the government’s budget.

Some US officials believe the blockade could push Tehran back to the negotiating table, pointing to a similar strategy previously employed against Venezuela.

However, the approach carries significant risks. US naval vessels operating close to Iranian shores could face sudden drone and missile attacks, raising the possibility of further escalation in the region.
