The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested the prime suspect, truck driver Md Sujjat Ali 50, in the killing of petrol pump manager Nahid Sardar, who was run over after being denied diesel in Narail.
The arrest was made on Sunday afternoon in Kismat Mohammadpur, Abhoynagar Upazila, Jashore.
RAB-6 Jashore Company Commander Major Fazle Rabbi Prince confirmed the arrest.
Sujjat Ali is a resident of Peroli village, Narail Sadar, and the son of the late Shaidur Rahman.
Major Prince said the incident occurred around 2am on Saturday near the Tularampur rail bridge on the Jashore–Narail highway.
Sujjat Ali had gone to Tanvir Filling Station in Narail Sadar with his truck to collect diesel. When manager Nahid Sardar informed him that sufficient diesel was unavailable, a heated argument broke out. Sujjat allegedly threatened the manager before leaving.
Later, at around 2am, Nahid and his colleague Jihad Molla were returning home on a motorcycle. Near the Tularampur Rail Bridge, Sujjat’s truck struck them from behind and fled the scene. Nahid Sardar died instantly, while Jihad Molla was seriously injured.
Acting on a tip-off, RAB-6 Jashore conducted a raid in Abhoynagar and successfully apprehended him.
