Actor Tridha Chowdhury has criticised production houses for failing to protect performers after intimate scenes from her work were circulated on pornographic platforms without consent.
The Kolkata-born actor, who moved from Tollywood to Mumbai’s OTT circuit, rose to prominence in Prakash Jha’s ‘Ashram’. Her performance attracted attention for its intimate content, something she says is often misunderstood b y audiences and mishandled by producers.
Speaking in a recent interview, Chowdhury said she does not enjoy filming intimate scenes and only performs them when required for the character. “My role in Ashram was that of a sex worker, so intimacy was part of the narrative. But I never enjoy shooting those moments. It is simply my job,” she said.
Her frustration stems from discovering that edited clips from the series were appearing on porn sites. Chowdhury argued that producers must take responsibility for ensuring sensitive footage is not misused. “The production team should have ensured these scenes did not spread online. If they are leaked, they must be taken down immediately,” she said.
She added that short-form platforms have made matters worse. Intimate scenes are frequently repackaged into reels, leading to misconceptions about actors’ personal lives. “Audiences forget that what they see belongs to the character, not the individual,” she said.
Reflecting on her experience filming with Bobby Deol, she said the actor and director Prakash Jha were supportive during the series’ more demanding scenes, helping ease her nerves on set.
