The caretaker government system of the country and the independence of the judiciary will remain in place even after a change of government, says Adviser for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Asif Nazrul, and is confident that these two fundamental issues will remain protected and unchanged.
He said these words at an event organised on Wednesday at Hotel Intercontinental in the capital on the occasion of Human Rights Day 2025.
Asif Nazrul said, “Two things will never be lost. First, the caretaker government system, which is already fully protected by the Supreme Court’s verdict. Second, the Supreme Court Secretariat Ordinance. The Supreme Court itself is now the protector of this law. For the advancement of human rights, these two issues are fundamental guarantees.”
He said, “Our other reforms, such as the National Human Rights Commission Ordinance and the Enforced Disappearance Prevention Ordinance, will play a supportive role in building strong and accountable institutions.” He also stated that he would stand by civil society in protecting these laws after leaving the government.
Asif Nazrul called for moving forward by preserving the achieved reforms, saying, “If we all work together, we can build a more advanced Bangladesh.”
