A Dhaka court on Monday imposed a travel ban on the two daughters of former health minister Zahid Maleque amid an ongoing Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) investigation into allegations of corruption.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz issued the order following a petition filed by the ACC, court officials said.

The ACC’s assistant director, Mahathir Muhammad Sami, submitted the application, stating that the asset declarations of Sadia Maleque and Synthia Maleque submitted to the commission are currently being verified.

According to the ACC petition, reviews of financial records and information obtained from confidential sources during the inquiry suggest that the accused individuals, allegedly with the assistance of Zahid Maleque, were attempting to leave the country.

The commission warned that their departure could obstruct the investigation.

The ACC said the travel ban was necessary to ensure a proper and uninterrupted inquiry into the allegations.
