Expanding ICT services to every upazila and making technology easily accessible for ordinary people is a government priority, said Fakir Mahbub Anam, state minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, and Science and Technology.
He made the remarks on Wednesday while addressing a reception on his first working day in the new government. The reception was organised by the ICT Division at its conference room in Dhaka’s Agargaon.
In his speech, Minister Fakir Mahbub placed the highest emphasis on ensuring transparency and accountability in the ICT sector. He said that the professionalism and sincerity of officials are essential for implementing the policies set by the government.
He also said that ICT is a highly important and promising sector. He urged officials to work responsibly from their respective positions and added, “Let us work together.”
The minister further mentioned that the new government aims to earn public trust through its work. Referring to the prime minister’s directive to prioritise action, he said that visible progress and effective initiatives will be the means to meet people’s expectations.
ICT Division Secretary Shish Haydar Chowdhury, in his remarks, welcomed the newly appointed minister and said the division is working as the hub of the country’s digital transformation.
He highlighted initiatives such as ICT law and policy formulation, establishment of data centres and hi-tech parks, delivery of more than 450 digital services, support for startups and innovation, strengthening cyber security, and developing skilled manpower.
He pledged to work collectively under the minister’s guidance to ensure transparency and accountability in implementing government policies.
Senior officials of the ICT Division, heads of various offices and agencies, and staff members were present at the event.
