The first anniversary of TIMES of Bangladesh was celebrated in Tangail.
The event, featuring a discussion and cake-cutting ceremony, was held at the VIP Convention Centre of Tangail Press Club on Friday night.
State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku attended the programme as the chief guest.
Tuku said journalism is one of the most important and respected professions in the country.
“Journalists play a significant role in taking society and the country forward. Just as politicians have to work 24 hours a day for the development of the country and its people, journalists also perform their duties,” he said.
The state minister said the biggest strength of the media is the trust of its readers.
“To retain that trust, it is essential to verify information before publishing news, present statements from all sides and avoid any kind of bias. In changing times, TIMES of Bangladesh will play an important role in establishing stronger journalism by keeping pace with readers’ demands and technological changes,” he said.
Tuku said he regularly reads TIMES of Bangladesh and praised the newspaper’s makeup, presentation and graphic design, describing them as different from those of other newspapers.
“The newspaper has been able to gain acceptance among readers through objective news reporting within a year. I hope TIMES of Bangladesh will earn readers’ trust in the days ahead through objective and impartial journalism,” he said.
The discussion was chaired by Managing Editor of TIMES of Bangladesh Nahid Hossain.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Md Mahbub Hasan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Md Selim Mia, Additional Superintendent of Police HM Mahbub Rezwān Siddiqui, Tangail Press Club President Advocate Ataur Rahman Azad, General Secretary Kazi Zakerul Mawla, former president of Tangail Press Club and editor of weekly Purbakash Advocate Khan Mohammad Khaled, former member secretary of Tangail district BNP Mahmudul Haque Sanu, President of Tangail District Business Unity Alliance Abul Kalam Mostafa Labu, and Tangail Journalists Union General Secretary, NTV Staff Reporter and Tangail correspondent of Dainik Amar Desh Mahabbat Hossain, among others, spoke at the event.
The programme was moderated by TIMES of Bangladesh Tangail district correspondent Mohiuddin Sumon and Global Television Tangail correspondent Rumi Akter Poly.
At the end of the discussion, the chief guest cut the cake marking the newspaper’s first anniversary along with all the guests.
