Three furniture workers sustained burn injuries after a septic tank exploded at a seven-storey building in the capital’s Kalabagan area early Wednesday.
The injured were identified as Md Jewel, 20, Md Rana, 22, and Md Parvez, 21, all from Bangkhali village in Karimganj upazila of Kishoreganj district.
They were rescued and taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute at around 12:30am, resident physician Dr Harunur Rashid said.
Md Rajib, who accompanied the victims to the hospital, said the three men worked at a furniture shop in Panthapath and were varnishing furniture on the ground floor of the building when gas that had accumulated inside the septic tank exploded, leaving them with burn injuries.
According to Dr Harunur Rashid, Jewel suffered burns to 30 per cent of his body, Rana sustained 63 per cent burns and Parvez 21 per cent.
“Due to the extent of their injuries, Rana and Jewel have been admitted to the intensive care unit,” the physician said.
